Smith is known for her 2D & 3D compositions that include recycled & repurposed materials, clay and altered book substrates. Additionally, Smith has come to appreciate the auspicious benefits of the camera phone to connect with the abundant sources of inspiration. Some of these photos have become part of many of her compilations while others stand alone. The blending of traditional and nontraditional materials defines Smith’s creative process. She searches for items that have history or some unique aesthetic appeal to become part of her collection. These are saved until they are the perfect fit for a developing project. This eclectic method comes from an appreciation for the potentiality of materials and how they can reveal a story.
