Rob Loebell Sculpture

Bloomfield, CT
Medium: wood
I have been a sculptor for over 45 years. My work investigates the liminal space between two and three dimensions through a series of wood relief carvings.Pushing the boundaries and limitations inherent in my chosen medium,I employ multiple means of manipulation-carving, bending, burning.I’m inspired by historical bas-relief carving and ancient architecture. My source material ranges from archival imagery, photographs I’ve taken while traveling, or family photos.I have exhibited widely at venues throughout New England, New York, and my native Philadelphia. Recently, my work was exhibited at the William-Scott Gallery in Provincetown, Boston Sculptors Gallery, First Street Gallery in New York, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and ‘Short Stories’, a one person exhibit at the Canton Artists’ Guild Gallery on the Green. I am also a longtime member of the New York Sculptors Guild, the Silvermine Guild of Artists, Mystic Museum Elected Artist. I live and work in Bloomfield, CT.
