glass
I started my career as an artist coming from a background as a degreed mechanical engineer. I’ve used that background as I subsequently studied art and went on to receive my PhD in fine arts by continuing to develop my work as an artist around the technical challenges of building blown and fused glass into sources of light. I utilize this metaphor of self-produced light in many ways sculpturally to illustrate themes of inspiration, enlightenment, energy, vision, and focus. For me I get a twofold satisfaction from both the technical challenges of developing new successful light forms and then crafting them into hopefully meaningful forms. The often extreme technical challenge of building light sources satisfies my engineer side and the formation of meaningful themes with this work intrigues the other half of my brain.
