Chris Plaisted Installed Work in Three Shows in June

The Wave in Newport, CA until June 2028

Height: 7.5’ Width: 6’ Depth: 4′ Materials: Steel, Stainless Steel

The Wave depicts a cresting wave crafted from rebar. Its dynamic and flowing texture captures the movement of water. A polished stainless steel sun hangs suspended in the air, casting its glow over the waves. The sun’s rich silver color contrasts beautifully with the cool blue of the Waves. It is designed to be viewed from multiple angles so that the viewer can appreciate the intricate details of the waves and the sun from every perspective.

Athena and A Fool and His Gold at Meredith Sculpture Walk

Athena

2025, 9’ x 3’ x 3’, Steel, Granite, Brass, Stainless Steel

The sculpture is a striking abstract representation of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. Crafted from steel, bronze, and polished stone, the piece stands tall, inviting viewers to explore its intricate forms. The overall silhouette is reminiscent of a classical figure, yet the details are intentionally fragmented and geometric, symbolizing the complexity of knowledge and strength.

A Fool and His Gold

2024, 8.5′ x 4′ x 2′ Steel, Brass

The sculpture “A Fool and His Gold” presents an abstract face positioned centrally within a triangle formed by sturdy rebar. The use of rebar gives the piece a raw, industrial feel, contrasting with the more refined elements surrounding it. Ground-out brass findings are interspersed throughout, catching the light and drawing the viewer’s attention to the details.

The abstract face within the triangular frame suggests a sense of entrapment or confinement, reinforcing the idea of man’s futile pursuit of wealth and materialism.

Intervenire and Over the Horizon in Franconia Art Walk

Intervenire

2026, 7.5′ x 5′ x 3.5′  2026

Stainless Steel, Steel, Wood, Concrete

This abstract sculpture titled Intervenire captures a moment of quiet contemplation through its interplay of materials and forms. Stainless steel and warm, organic wood rise from a solid concrete/steel base with gentle circles; the bands are a gesture of stillness. The reflective surfaces hold the light of the Driftless landscape, while the wooden forms speak to the patient resilience of growth rooted in place. The contrast between industrial steel and the natural wood creates a meditative balance—neither tension nor movement, but a suspended harmony. Negative space becomes a place of rest, with gaps and overlaps inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the quiet connections between human craft and the enduring landscape.

Over The Horizon

2023, 8′ x 4′ x 2′ 2023 Stainless Steel

It was intricately designed to depict the Equinox, with the sun and the unseen moon on opposite sides of the sculpture, and the Earth at its center. The Earth was described as a half-sphere welded to the sculpture. The Equinox is represented by a thin copper rod that runs through the sculpture’s center, holding the sun. The rod is designed to be slightly curved, which gives the sculpture a sense of movement and fluidity.
