Skylight Studios Tour - December 2026
Member Lisa R. Benson hosted several NESA members for a tour and conversation about services at the studio.Lisa gave a colorful history of this business, which includes her father’s ownership and her participation since childhood. Skylight Studios has a long tradition of doing commissioned sculptures, as well as producing plaster casts of their Caproni collection. They also makes molds and casts of artists’ work, as well as some scale modeling.

Chinese Brush Painting - February 2025
This workshop was lead by member and NESA VP, Bayda Asbridge. She generously hosted participants at her home in Worcester.
Wire Sculpture and Basketry - November 2024
Five NESA members (and a friend) joined Bayda in her home to learn this technique. Bayda generously supplied the materials and the comfortable space in which to work. Like others, this workshop not only provided instruction on the techniques of a form of sculpture, but it also allowed NESA members to socialize and get to know one another a bit more. Appreciation for the session was expressed by all who attended.
Working with Wax - April 2024

Four dedicated NESA members attended a workshop given by Justin Perlman at his glorious studio in South Bethlehem, Connecticut. Justin, who teaches sculpture at the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, works in multiple media, but focused on wax in this workshop. After receiving tips on the nature and types of wax from Justin, participants were able to create a small piece by coating styrofoam with wax. Like many other workshops, members got the opportunity to meet, discuss art, methods, materials, tools, and places to buy these things. I could wax more eloquently about the experience (:-), but suffice it to say that whenever Nesa members have an opportunity to gather, learning is inevitable.

Studio Tour, Artist Talk, and Demonstration with Natasha Dikareva - June 2024
From attendee, Scott Cahaly – Natasha welcomed several NESA members to her home gallery to begin the workshop and tour on June 4th. After welcoming espressos, the group visited her studio and saw her outdoor kiln. A tour of her sculpture park in the wooded area behind her home and studio concluded the tour. The group then spent time in discussions of her work and her life as an artist.
Developing Public Work - May 2023
NESA member, Meredith Bergmann, led studio tour and discussion about the process of developing a design and bringing a public commission to fruition.
Studio Tour with Domenic Esposito - November 2022
NESA members gathered for a studio tour and talk with fellow member and President-elect Domenic Esposito.
Attendees learned about his process, his inspirations, and motivations and were able to ask questions about his work and his studio space.
Stemming from a personal family experience, Domenic started his artistic journey by making large scale steel sculptures of opioid spoons and placing them guerilla style at pharmaceutical company headquarters to raise awareness and highlight the responsibility of the pharmaceutical industry in the national crisis. From there he created the Opioid Spoon project and has since started making other forms of art that combine painting, bronze casting and plastics.
He continues to explore the intersection of addiction, brain development and mental health. His latest series of full body bronze sculptures combined with canvas environments uses the central image of a hoodie-wearing figure to explore what it means to feel alone and struggling highlighting mental illness as an urgent issue in our society.
Domenic was generous with his time and shared the specific artistic methods he has used as well as the challenges to getting what he wants sculpturally in order to express his ideas.

Workshops can be as simple as inviting other members to your studio to demonstrate a process or technique, a group critique and feedback session, an artist statement-writing session, or a hands-on event where everyone leaves with a project. Workshops are an opportunity to surround yourself with new ideas and creative energy.
