Three Sculptures by Chris Plaisted in Quad City Public Sculpture Program

Chris installed Wind in the Waves, Skuldelev, and Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear as part of the  Quad City Public Sculpture Program.

The sculptures are leased and on public display for a one-year period. The current exhibition features 22 leased sculptures in partnership with the City of Rock Island, the Moline Public Art Commission, The City of Bettendorf, the Downtown Davenport Partnership, and the DeWitt Community Library, showing their commitment to the cultural and artistic vitality of the local community.

Skuldelev  (height: 84  width: 68 depth: 48 inches) 2019

Skuldelev outlines the sail and hull approaching and the churning water in this abstract sculpture. Below are the imagined monsters of the sea. The Skuldelev ships are five original Viking ships recovered from the waterway of Peberrenden at Skuldelev, north of Roskilde in Denmark.

Wind in The Waves   (height: 56  width: 36 depth: 36 inches) 2019

Wind in the Waves is part of a series inspired by fire, water, and various storms. They are symbolic in nature, and each has a compelling personality.

This piece is made of welded steel and is painted reflective blues. The details are cut from a 4″ x 8″ sheet of steel with a plasma torch. They are then welded together, sandblasted, and painted with various shades of blue to give it a shimmer in the light.

OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE LARGER THAN THEY APPEAR (height: 8.5 width: 5 depth: 5 feet) 2024

This piece is a tongue-in-cheek large-scale abstraction of a pedestrian walking sign and the writing in your rearview mirror.
