Working with clay is a deeply personal and somewhat mysterious process for me. I work slowly, adding coil after coil, entranced by the tactile sensation of feeling the clay move beneath my fingers. I don’t usually set out to create specific forms, yet my sculptures generally have a biomorphic appearance, and that has become the language of my work. Although my sculptures resemble images from the natural world, they also reflect my intangible inner ruminations. As I build a sculpture, I feel that I am speaking my deepest non-verbal thoughts. I sometimes feel that I create forms out of clay as a way to know what I am thinking and feeling on a deep symbolic level.
