My work is influenced by my experience as an Architect on Cape Cod for 35 years and 21st and 20th century architects and abstract sculptors. The opportunities and restraints in creating buildings and sculptures are similar in some ways. Both enhance the lives of those that experience them. Creating sculptures is very intuitive and kinetic and influenced by the materials I use, often cardboard, glue and found materials. I often use photocopies of my own 2-D work as collage to enhance the surface. The materials are easily manipulated. I have even smash parts of a sculpture, which I have done with an ax on the hardened form, cojoin a completed work that I had viewed as unsuccessful (clunky, boring, static, etc.) with the new form and keep moving forward until it feels and looks right to me. The work is very meditative (except for the ax part perhaps!) and fulfilling on so many levels.
